The anticipation is building as the Allan Hall Business Advisors surfing squad — alongside our very good friends at Big Hill Beach Cottages in Crescent Head — prepare to hit the surf and compete in the annual SurfAid Cup contest at Manly in November.
Our team will be surfing together again with the goal of doing us proud and taking out the championship.
Taking place at Manly Beach on Friday 8 November 2024, the SurfAid Cup raises funds for SurfAid’s Mother and Child Health Programmes. With your support, we can give families the best chance of getting ahead by providing access to healthcare, clean water and sanitation and improved nutrition.

At Allan Hall, giving back is part of who we are. We believe in supporting a strong, positive local economy where people help each other. The SurfAid Cup Manly is a key event for us, and since 2013, we’ve raised over $70k. We hope you’ll join us in supporting this cause!
Highest amount fundraised by Allan Hall / Big Hill Beach Cottages
Last Friday 27 October, the Beecraft SurfAid Cup returned for the 12th year of surfing action at beautiful Manly Beach.
An impressive $90,118 was raised for SurfAid water, health and food security programs, and spectators witnessed both seasoned pros and local legends compete at one of Australia’s most iconic beaches.
With 15 teams battling it out, and once again facing windy and rainy conditions as the day started, fortunately, the surf conditions were favourable with nice 2-3 foot waves on offer.
The event was set up at North Steyne, where surfers had the opportunity to ride both lefts and rights. As the event unfolded, the sun graced surfers with its presence in the afternoon, and a beautiful rainbow painted the sky, adding a touch of magic to the day.
The final saw Allan Hall / Big Hill Beach Cottages, Beecraft, More 4 Life, Perfect Wave and Asquire battle for the Surfing Champions award.
The competition was fierce but, in the end, it was Allan Hall / Big Hill Beach Cottages who emerged as the Surfing Champions narrowly defeating Recoverie Manly by just 2 points in an exciting contest. Allan Hall / Big Hill Beach Cottages didn’t just excel in the waves, but were also the second-highest fundraising team, contributing an amazing $14,100 to SurfAid’s cause.
Allan Hall’s Scott Somerville said the contest was won against all odds.
“In the line-up, youth dominated numerous teams, while ours boasted the wisdom of two 60-year-olds, alongside a budding artist and a strength and conditioning coach. Among them our cleaner, Greg Anderson, stood proudly as one of the seasoned 60-year-olds, contributing his invaluable experience to the winning mix,” said Scott.
There was no shortage of surfing talent on display, with SurfAid’s pro pool including legends Matt ‘Wilko’ Wilkinson, Kobi Clements, Shyla and Zahlia Short, Bryce Martiskin, Christo Hall, Fred Carmody, Jack MacDonald, Max Grayling, Tommy Myers, Sam Page, Samson Coulter, and Sol Gruendling.
We extend our gratitude to these surfers who lent their time to make this day a success, and heartfelt thanks to long-time sponsor of the SurfAid Cup Manly, Beecraft. Their continued support has been instrumental in the success of the event.
SurfAid’s Claire Stafford added, “A big shoutout to the participating teams who have been returning year after year, combining their love for surfing with their dedication to fundraising and supporting SurfAid’s life-changing initiatives.”

The Beecraft SurfAid Cup returned for an 11th year of surfing action at beautiful Manly Beach on 11 November raising funds for Mother and Child Health programs. Spectators witnessed surfing pros and local legends compete at one of Australia’s most iconic beaches.
Facing windy conditions, 11 teams battled it out with plenty of waves on offer and thankfully some cover from the northeast wind at Queenscliff Beach. There was no shortage of pro surfing talent, including Connor O’Leary, Matt ‘Wilko’ Wilkinson and Ace Buchan.
In the qualifying rounds Allan Hall/Big Hill Beach Cottages, Asquire, Ando Tuckers’ Team, Beecraft, More 4 Life and The Perfect Wave headed straight to the semi-finals. This left Psyched Out Groms, Blackrock Boardriders, ASLA, Beach Burrito Co and GPT competing for a place in the semi-finals in a super competitive heat with the Psyched Out Groms and Blackrock just making it through.
The final saw Allan Hall/Big Hill Beach Cottages, Beecraft, More 4 Life, Perfect Wave and Asquire vie for the Surfing Champions award.
Asquire took the trophy with 85.06 points, one of the highest scores ever recorded in the SurfAid Cup Manly history, helped by their pro, Tommy Myers.
At the day’s end, all competitors headed to Hotel Steyne for the after-party, none of which would’ve been possible without major sponsor, Beecraft.
SurfAid’s Claire Stafford said, “Thank you for being part of yet another SurfAid Cup Manly. We love having Allan Hall as part of the event and we’re so grateful for the incredible long term support.”
“What an amazing fundraising result this year! This can do an enormous amount of good work for our remote communities throughout Indonesia. We look forward to keeping you updated with our work in the field and the impact your donations have made.”

Allan Hall and Big Hill Beach Cottages placed third at the 2021 Beecraft SurfAid Cup
It was not a great beach day but we still had a fantastic time competing for the 7th year in a row at the annual Beecraft SurfAid Cup, held at Manly Beach last Friday 26 November, raising vital funds for SurfAid’s Mother and Child Health Programmes.
This year, Allan Hall again joined forces with Big Hill Beach Cottages and our formidable combined line-up placed third in a hotly contested surfing final.
The team consisted of Greg Anderson and Jake Somerville surfing for Allan Hall, Rob Bain surfing for Big Hill Beach Cottages plus long-time associate of Allan Hall, Ben Hamilton.
Through our outstanding fundraising, we were able to pick well known professional surfer Matt Wilkinson who was volunteering his expertise in honour of the event and certainly added to our team’s success.
The day is certainly about surfing to raise awareness, and we are extremely proud of our fundraising efforts this year, for which our team raised $10,200 for SurfAid’s Mother & Child Health Programmes thanks to our clients and friends.
Overall fundraising efforts from all teams involved in the 2021 SurfAid Cup came to an incredible total of $146,235. We would like to thank everyone involved in this year’s competition, and we would especially like to thank those who donated to our team and supported us on the day!
